The length of time Tricyclic Antidepressants stay in your system will depend on a number of factors. In general though, most people find the drugs will have left their system within three to 10 days of their last dosage.

What will affect the length of time for the final traces of the drugs to leave your system?

  • The dosage you have been prescribed by your doctor or physician will affect the length of time it takes for all traces of the drug to leave your body.  Obviously if you are taking a higher dosage than another individual, it will probably take longer for the final dose to leave your system because there is a higher concentration of it in your body.
  • The length of time you were taking the prescribed drugs may also have an effect on how long it takes for the final traces to leave your system. This will also include how often and how frequently you were taking the drugs.
  • The period of time will also vary depending on factors such as your metabolic rate and physiological makeup. Your height, age, weight, body fat percentage and how physically active you are will all contribute towards determining how long the antidepressants will stay in the body.

If for whatever reason you are worried about how long traces of the antidepressant will stay in your body, it is always advisable to speak to your physician. They may be able to prescribe another treatment for your condition.
