Zuhail is completely wrong. I had a fractured wrist for 4 years without it healing and without knowing it. I got an xray the night that it occurred, but the doctor told me it was a sprain, so I continued to just deal with it for the following four years. I assure you, it is a definite possibility that you may have a fractured wrist, even if the doctor originally says it isn't- people make mistakes! If it hurts after 5 months, there must be a reason. Please do get it checked again and avoid the massive surgery costs, and the bone grafts, pins, and arthritis you may get if you leave it alone like I did (and I'm only 23!). Take care and good luck.

You wouldn't necessarily realise. I thought I'd simply sprained my wrist in a fall and it was 10 days later when the wrist was still significantly tender that I thought I'd get it x-rayed. Turns out it had been fractured all along and was already partially healed of its own accord. I could easily have gone much longer without getting it checked out as it wasn't particularly painful and I only went for the x-ray as an after thought.

I thought I had sprained my wrist in a fall only to find I had fractured my elbow in two places. Radial head, radial neck- runs from outside of elbow across top of forearm to inside of wrist.
If you sprained it badly, depending on your lifestyle, it can easily take up to a year to abate. If you broke it, even hairline fractures tend to develop a visible knot ...

I disagree. I had fractured my wrist and did not know it until several months later. While I had some pain, it felt more like a sprain, but it just remained tender. My wrist began healing on its own before it was ever xrayed. I agree that if you are concerned, an xray is a good idea.

I'm not sure if I have a break in my wrist just at the base of the thumb I bent my hand back and now I cannot open a door or grip things and cannot bend my hand back, there is no swelling getting more painful and I go away tomorrow night

I'm in the same situation at the moment. I was tackled during a football match about 5 months+ ago and landed of my wrist awkwardly. Since then I've felt minor pain on a daily basis however when I visit the gym and try to lift weights when exercising my arms I feel a very sharp pain in my wrist. As a result I have not been at the gym for several months. Any advice? Can it be fractured?

No, you will definitely know that your wrist is fractured. When you feel pain have problem in doing normal work then you should know that something is wrong. The fracture can be minor or severe depends upon the pain you are feeling. You fell 5 months ago. You should have taken X-ray. It will tell the complete story.
