Gardnerella infection is caused by bacteria in the genitalia of women. There are no proves that this infection is transmitted through sex. These bacteria are present in non sexually active and sexually active ladies without any symptoms. These bacteria cause infection when pH of female genitalia is changed and these bacteria grow abnormally. This infection causes gray white discharge with fishy smell. Use of antibiotics, birth control pills, pregnancy, use of tampons etc can cause this infection.
