It was first discovered in a chimpanzee, and it jump to the human race by the humans going hunting for the chimps as food and clothing.....and it was first identified in USA in 1981 when a number of gay men started to get sick from a rare type of cancer......it took several years for scientist to come up with a test to detect what the viruses was.

Years before the onset of the AIDS epidemic, a doctor in France named Dr Luc Montagnier made important discoveries regarding body viruses.  In 1983, he discovered the human immunodeficiency-virus (HIV), which was identified as the cause of AIDS, and led directly to the development of a test to detect HIV in blood samples.
