Whatever you do, do not put any Vasoline, butter, or any type of ointment products on the burned area! These can either make the burn worse or cause an infection.

Cool the burn by running some cool water over the affected area (or use a cold compress) until the pain lessens and then wrap the area in a clean cloth or bandage. Be sure that the bandage is non-adhesive (ex: Band-aid). Best of luck to you.

Cool the burn with cool water, as Corey said do not put butter or anything like it, that type of thing will keep the heat in. Aloe Vera, straight from the plant or 100% aloe vera gel, your doctor can prescribe a burn cream called silvadene that will help you best. Keep it covered lightly, don't want it dirty at all. Once it's healing, you can use vitamin E oil to lessen scarring, but only when it's headlining.
