Before you start to think about how you can reduce your serum creatinine level, you must first gain a certain level of understanding about exactly what it is. Creatinine is what is produced when a muscle protein called creatine breaks down. After creatinine is produced, it is excreted out of the body through the kidneys. However, a small portion may be passed out of the body through the urine. This mainly happens when there is some kind of underlying problem with the kidneys as improper functioning can result in improper filtration.

Serum creatinine levels are tested to check the condition of the kidneys. If the levels are abnormally high then this could indicate a problem with the kidneys.

Reducing your serum creatinine levels can usually be done through regular treatment or prescribed medicines but believe it or not there are in fact quite a few things you can try to help reduce your serum creatinine levels.

Aim to drink lots of water throughout the day, at least six glasses a day, as this helps to clear out your system. Avoid coffee, tea or any caffeine which can clog it up.

Avoid foods that are rich in protein such as dairy products, meat and fish. If you cannot avoid eating these, considering constructing a protein tracker or planning your meals to regulate your intake of protein. You need to keep your protein levels in check in order to keep your kidneys healthy from the inside. It can also be a good idea to regularly check your serum creatinine levels to see if there is any improvement. If there is not, then you should consider a visit to your doctor just to check that there is nothing wrong.

Before talking about reducing the serum creatinine level, we must be aware of what creatinine is. Creatinine is a substance that is produced by tne breakdown of creatine, a muscle protein inside the body. Creatinine produced within the body is excreted through the kidneys. While most of the creatinine is filtered in the kidneys, a small portion of it may pass out of the body through the urine. Sometimes, the amount of creatinine in the blood may be large. This happens usually when the kidneys are not functioning properly. Improper functioning causes improper filtration.

The serum creatinine levels are determined, therefore, to test the condition of the kidneys. Reducing srum creatinine levels is possible with proper treatment and medication. Currently, use of cilostazol is being advocated as a means of controlling serum creatinine levels in the body.

Besides, studies have been conducted to determine the effectiveness of Chinese medication in reducing serum creatinine levels in rats. Medication prepared from Salvia miltiorrhizae, Typha angustifolia, and Rheum palmatum preparations have been found to have a positive effect so far.

Serum Creatinine is increased when there is glomerular damage to the kidneys. Fastest way to reduce serum creatinine would be dialysis.

Serum creatinine greater than 442μmoI / L may consider dialysis treatment; serum creatinine greater than 530μmoI / L have to do dialysis. Because diabetes is easy with severe heart, brain and vascular and nerve lesions, so diabetic patients with terminal renal failure, dialysis must be started as soon as possible. Indications have not yet reached dialysis patients with diabetes, renal insufficiency, gastrointestinal dialysis treatment can be used, or decoction of Chinese medicine containing rhubarb retention enema and so on. By serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine clearance rate, etc., observe the therapeutic effect.
