There are a number of things that can cause a pain in your lower left side or your abdomen. These pains could be caused by Crohn's disease, diverticulitis or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Each of these is a well known condition that causes problems with the abdomen. The best thing to do is to consult a medical professional about this.

In a lot of cases with the abdomen and especially the lower reaches of the stomach you will have to undergo a colonoscopy. This will involve a camera being put into your rectum and allow doctors to have a look to see if there is any inflammation or other signs that may lead them to diagnose the issue.

  • IBS is a very common stomach complaint but this does not mean it is not comfortable. The disease consists of different changes in bowel habits which cause a range of symptoms including diarrhea or constipation or both. It can also cause a number of stomach pains and irritation.
  • Crohn's disease is another quite common stomach complaint, it is an inflammatory disease of the intestines and causes pain, diarrhea, which may be bloody if inflammation is at its worst, vomiting, and weight loss. It can be treated with an array of medicines.
  • Diverticulitis is a swelling of the abdominal pouch in the intestinal wall, this cause a lot of pain and discomfort. It is generally a dull pain rather than a sharp one and is very uncomfortable. It is not helped by high-fiber foods and a course of antibiotics is often used to cure it.The best thing to do in such a case is visit your doctor who will determine the issue.
