Ductus arteriosus and foramen ovale basically function during the the development of fetus. The ductus arteriosus connects pulmonary artery to the aortic arch. It basically strengthens the right ventricle of the fetus and keeps the fetus' lungs from being exhausted by work-overload.
Foramen ovale on the other hand is a shunt, providing passage for the fetus blood to move from the right atrium and enter the left atrium.
