The recovery will be long and painful. When the knee is damaged, the tissue needs to heal so he will it will have to be immobilized. When the tissue is strong enough to begin rehab, the knee will need to be manipulated to regain full extension and flexion - this usually hurts like a .... Well... You know.

You had better ask that question to your doctor. I assure you if you follow the doctor's advice with letter and spirit, it will recover 100%. However, it need some time. You will be able to walk soon but complete recovery may take a year. You have to be patient during that time and follow doctor's advice.
