The gardnerella is bacteria which causes infections called Gardnerella Vaginalis in females. It is characterized by yellowish discharge with fishy smell. This infection is thought to be an STD but also present in women not sexually active. It does not cause infection in male. He can transmit to partner.

Bacterial vaginosis (gardnerella) is an imbalance of the normal bacteria in the vagina. All woman have natural vaginal flora that we live with in harmony. It's not until the flora over grows that we develop a problem and must seek treatment, usually in the form of antibiotics.I don't believe this is classified under STD but still beware. This is a bacterial infection and still can be passed to and from sexual partners.Good Luck!
