I Had My First R-chop For Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I Would Like To Know Generally How Long After Your First Treatment Should I Expect Side Effects? And Also, Do Side Effects Generally Get Worse With Each Treatment You Receive? Thank You

I am on my third R-CHOP Treatment for NHL.  Now that you have gone a week you probably already know that it takes about a week to 10 days to get over the treatment.  Actually, I felt nauseated days 2,3 and a little on day 4.  One thing I did not know is that day 8 can be a very bad day.  I assume you take Prednisone for 5 days.  If this is true, then on day 7 or 8 you have what the nurse called a "Prednisone Crash".  I felt very tired but could not sleep, pain in my stomach etc etc.  Also, for me a big part of getting over Chemo is trying to get my digestive system to work again.  Constipation has been a problem  Milk of Magnesia and prune juice (which I hate), plus Senna have seemed to work okay.

Hope this helps.

I had 6 sessions of R-CHOP and suffered very few side effects. Did have the Prednisolone Crash and an infected gum about half way through. I know that you will have finished your treatment by now but this is for others who may read this. I did not have any nausea.

Good luck to anyone having to have this treatment.

I have finished my 4th chemo of R-Chop and will have 6 total.  I have found each recovery period to get a bit better.  I have added walking/exercise to my days that I am on Prednizone, and it really helped with the IBS along with a mixture of miralex, colace, and some prune/bran/applesauce dish.  Constipation and bloated water retention for the 4 to 5 days was just too much for me.

The most severe is that I have a cough due to something happening with my air tube/nasal area.  I can't clear it and so I cough most of the day.  I have had two different medications to clear it, but nothing has worked.  They say I may have to live with it until I am off of the chemo drug.

Has anyone else had this?

Tired  Yes - always tired, but I try to get my self doing something each day that has purpose.

I'm 52 and completed 6 cycles of R-CHOP in June 08. Now, almost 9 months later I am experiencing long term effects:
Paraesthesia of fingers, toes and tongue which means weakness as well as loss of sensation,
sore guts with some constipation still,
desperate tiredness,
chemo brain - once a scientist, I not cannot do simple mental arithmetic or remember someone's name,
sense of unreality as if I am not really here rather just looking in on life,
heart palpitations up to 10 times per day lasting seconds to many minutes,
and there are other little things at times that I cannot remember right now.

But take heart, not everyone experiences all this for so long. The tiredness and chemo brain are by far the worst.
