Why don't you make it a gift for both of them? Something they can bond over?
I got my kid a remote control car last year (one of those hobby grade ones that you can build into, the fancy ones you know?)
If hubby is a car aficionado or anything like that then they might be able to bond on a hobby they both enjoy and learn something new together.
I bought mine from a website called Amazing RC Store in Canada but there are hobby shops almost everywhere so if you have one close by you should consider it :)
