I have been dealing with depression for about two months now and I can not gather the courage to tell my parents. I have had suicidal thoughts twice. I need coping methods. DO NOT tell me to go get a devoted hobby or a distraction?

Try talking to a friend, school counselor or depression hotline. Remember YOU ARE A VERY IMPORTANT PERSON.

Know that everyone goes through heavy emotional times in their life  at several different times. Destructive thoughts won't help you. You are in charge of your own happiness.  Don't waste your precious time by thinking about the bad stuff.  You have to look past it and try to enjoy each moment of the day. Give yourself a break. (and do get a hobby)  To give yourself something constructive to occupy your time (and thoughts)

Depression is an illness that can be as deadly as pneumonia.

It is eminently treatable with the appropriate medication, just as pneumonia is.

See a doctor---preferably a psychiatrist.

If this is situational depression, the best thing to do is get out of your own head. Do things for others.  If this is clinical depression you really need to see a professional.
