Yes, I have gone. Yes it did me good. If I needed to, I would go again. Never be afraid to ask for help. The only problem is that if you cannot stand people that are seriously mentally ill, this will not be the place for you. I was in two completely different hospitals, both for five days each. One was great, one not so great.
People that are seriously mentally ill are noisy at night and unable to settle unless they are medicated. They sometimes resist being medicated which leads to problems.
I went - did everything they wanted me to - went to group sessions - talked to various doctors - took the meds they wanted me to. When you do all this, you are complying with their rules to prove that you can follow directions. Upon release, I got some great information and support groups to connect to.
Recognize when you need to get help. Sometimes counseling works, sometimes you need more assistance than that. Don't be afraid to reach out and connect with people that can help.
