It's one of many methods of providing stimulation.

Just avoid using it as a baby-sitter.

It depends on what and how much television they watch. Too many parents just put in a disney movie and let that babysot their kids. That is bad. The only thing that teaches them is some magical thing will happen and they will live happily ever after.

At dinner this afternoon there were four teachers. Two teach high school. One middle school and one teaches elementary school. We were talking on how too many kids today do not know how reason and process simple things. Either they have had everything so structured or they have been put in front of a tv that they haven't had the experiences generations before them have had of learning to build forts or taking things apart just to put them back together. You see 12 year olds who need babysitters, where as generations before the 12 year olds were the baby sitters.

Woah, now. There has been many rumors of things like this but trust me, if television was unhealthy for children, there wouldn't be shows like Sesame Street, things like Disney Junior and other. Sure, they can be consuming at points but it doesn't hurt their brains. But that doesn't mean that you should let them watch whatever, There are age advisories for a reason and this generation likes ignoring them. But young children like imitating violent things (My cousins watch wrestling a lot...you can imagine how rough they are) so be sure to supervise that. A lot of shows inspire children. When I was little, I always watched Disney movies on my old as dirt TV, and it inspired me to draw. It always made my imagination go crazy and I still draw today. Don't worry about that, what I would worry about is phone and iPad/iPod usage. Kids do THAT a lot more then they watch TV and that tends to be much worse. Parents are pretty ignorant and just don't give a crap that their kids don't do anything but play on devices all day. But it can also depend on the child. Some children lose concentration more then others. If you know your child has concentration issues or perhaps some sort of disability, watch out for how much they watch TV. :)
