They each present a different set of problems if either one of them is abnormal. Both of them measure the pressure of blood in your arteries, with systolic representing peak pressure, and diastolic representing minimum pressure.
If one or the other is abnormally high, you are at risk of having some type of myocardial infarction because there is an increased amount of pressure when there shouldn't be. If they are abnormally low, than you're more at risk of fainting and falling down the stairs.
Either way, treatment should be considered if the numbers do not fall within established parameters.
