My temperature usually is 96.6 degrees most of the time. When my temperature goes down I get chills across the upper chest area and just below the arm pits. What causes this. I am a 68 year old male and I have diabetes.

Yours is in the range of normal. Don't know what causes it in scientific terms but the medical team I deal with doesn't ever seem concerned when my temp is 96. During times when the outside temperature is low it's not uncommon for a person's body temperature to be below 98.6 just as when it's hot outside a person's body temp may be above 98.6 when there's no sickness involved.

This is the kind of temperature a person would expect to have when they first get up or are cold, it is not that abnormal.
