I am covered in insect bites, they are full of fluid and despite a week at home with antihistamine and cream are not getting any better. Any suggestions? I have been to the pharmacy and was told to burst the blisters and keep doing what I am doing...

If you are bursting the blisters, I'm not surprised that they are not getting better, the pharmacist who told you this is not very professional...

Blisters form to protect the tissue underneath and are generally best left alone. If there is a need to burst them, this should be done in a sterile environment by a medical professional. They usually insert a needle and drain off the fluid.

You really need to see a doctor because it seems antibiotics are needed. There is also a steroid cream called Fucibet, but that is only available on prescription (another reason to see the doctor).

Piriton may help with the allergic reaction that you seem to have suffered as a result of the bites but check that with your doctor as this will obviously depend on what else you are taking.

To prevent this from happening again, use an insect repellant that contains 50% DEET.

Ideally wear long trousers and socks too, but that will look a little odd in the middle of summer!
