There is an old homeopathic remedy/wive's tale that says applying a raw slice of potato, a poultice of shredded potato, or red potato peel for 30 minutes several times a day will hasten the healing of a stye (which is an inflammation of a sebaceous gland, often caused by staph bacteria). Some people swear by it, but I couldn't find any chemistry or medical reason why this would work. The most common advice for resolving a stye is to apply warm moist compress to the area as many times a day as you can. This hastens the draining and healing of a stye.
I've never tried the potato remedy, but have heard a number of people say that it worked for them.
