Well, in theory, chewing gum is supposed to stop hunger. We "feel" full is because when we chew, messages are sent to the brain. The more we chew, the more messages are sent and the more we feel full. That is why, when you eat an extra chewy steak or something, you feel fuller faster than you would if you ate, say, a banana, or fruit smoothie. Today's fast food are made for easy swallowing and less chewing, this makes the consumer think they are still hungry and buy more. Unfortunately, this is how people become fat, obese, etc.

Chewing gum tells the brain that the body is eating so the stomach releases acids to break down food. However, if you chew gum on an empty stomach, then it will make you even hungrier than before. Chewing gum does not make you "full" nor does it help any diets.
