History of alcohol or drug abuse is one of the most common child custody issues. Recovering alcoholics may still be awarded custody, but it depends on a variety of factors. For one, the courts will want to see that you have been stable in your sobriety for at least a year (the more time, the better) and that you are actively working to stay sober by participating in AA classes and the like. Additionally, you may be granted custody if there are no other guardians better able to care for the children than yourself. The courts have a legal precedence to place the child with the parent or guardian who can provide for the child's best interests. By taking steps to prove that you are on the track to sobriety and responsible parenting, you will make yourself a more attractive custody recipient to the courts.

Until full recovery and release and time to show stability, you will not receive custody at this time

Have proof of how long you have been sober and that you are now a responsible parent.....the best to you, they will look at what you have accomplished sense you claim sobriety, how you make decision compared to before and now...the best to you

It depends upon how long you have been sober. If you have a 1 or 5 year pin you should be ok. If you have only 30 days you may have restricted visitation
