If it is just swollen and not broken ice to the area every 2-4 hours for 30 minutes, elevate your hand as much as possible and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen which is the same as motrin and advil.

I had surgery on my thumb to remove a splinter and should not use my hand at all, which I have done. My hand is swollen. Any ideas?
