Well 6 cm is about half an inch, so 8mm is one thousanth of a time smaller. So this is one thousand times smaller than a little over half an inch and yes, even though so small, can be very painful. May be the size of a grain but feels like a bowling ball. There are now treatments for such stones that do not involve surgery, explore your options with your doctor and see if there is some medication that can be given to help dissolve

Big enough for the DRs to go and remove it surgically, usually anything over 4mm they go get  but I have passed many stones ranging from 1mm up to 9mm and two at a time and I don't even know it anymore
