Shingles (herpes zoster) is caused by the internal reactivation of the same virus that causes chickenpox(varicella-zoster virus) . Shingles cannot be transmitted to another person by an infected person, but if you have active blisters, you CAN transmit chickenpox to someone (usually someone who has not had chickenpox, someone who has not been vaccinated against chickenpox). Children are especially susceptible. I would say if you have active blisters, avoid working with the public tole on the safe side.If you have a moment, I would appreciate you rating my answer so I know if it was helpful to you. Good luck!

Thanks so much. I do have a granddaughter (15 months) who I will be keeping shortly. She has had all shots. My blisters are dry, which are on back and elbows. Still unsure but will keep hands clean and not near area.
