There are several things that could be causing your stomach to hurt when you lie on it. Most of them are harmless, but if the pain doesn’t go away, you should see your doctor about it.

Why Does It Hurt When I Lie On My Stomach?
It’s probably because you’re putting pressure on something inside you – otherwise, it would hurt all the time.

Common causes of stomach pain when lying on your front include:

  • Constipation
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Gas
  • Eating a large meal
  • Drinking a lot of water in one go
  • Pregnancy
  • Kidney infection
  • PMS
Without knowing what’s causing your stomach to hurt, it’s very difficult to suggest anything to make it better.

To ease any general discomfort, you could try using a hot water bottle or taking a warm bath. Unfortunately, painkillers don’t tend to help with this sort of pain.

I’d suggest visiting your doctor if you can’t work out what’s causing the pain, or if it’s lasted for more than several days.

It might also be worth feeling your stomach with your hands to find out where the pain is coming from - this could help you work out what the problem is.

Best of luck to you.
