Sorry to hear that you're in pain! There are several things that could be causing your scalp to hurt, but it’ll be quite hard to find out which one it is.

If the pain persists for more than a week, it’s probably worth seeing your doctor.

What Are The Biggest Causes of Scalp Pain And Sensitivity?
  • Headaches (I know that seems strange!)
  • Contact dermatitis
  • Cellulitis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Scalp psoriasis
  • Scalp injury
  • Headlice
  • Concussion
  • Allergies and irritants
How Can I Stop My Scalp Hurting?
You might not be able to stop the pain completely, but there are still things you can do to ease the discomfort. Here are a few ideas:

  • Massage your scalp
  • Wash your hair in cold water
  • Take some painkillers
  • Wear your hair loose
  • Wrap an ice-pack in cloth and hold it to your head for five to ten minutes
Scalp pain is one of those things that can come and go really quickly, so you might just have to wait it out. If it persists, or keeps coming back, your doctor may be able to help.

Sunburn (yes, sunburn on top of your head), infected roots of your hair, bruising, or the start of a tension headache. It can be many many things.

If you are worried and do not think it is something simple then see a doctor.
