Being told you have dry kidneys could mean that you are dehydrated, and your body is lacking the fluids it needs, therefore causing your kidneys to be dry. Normal, healthy kidneys act like a filter, where blood is able flow through them, being filtered and cleaned in the process. Having unhealthy kidneys could mean that they are not filtering your body’s fluids properly. It can be painful and uncomfortable, and treatment will need to be obtained from your doctor in order to stop the symptoms from occurring.

Normally, dry kidneys occur when there is too much protein and sugar in your diet, which can lead to bladder infections as well as other problems. Regular exercise, little salt intake and a healthy low-fat diet is recommended to avoid dry kidneys. Also, it is vital to drink plenty of water, as this will replenish your body and stop it from being dehydrated.

It is understandable why the term ‘dry kidneys’ causes confusion, as it is an old term and is rarely used. There is little available information on this medical condition, which suggests that the term ’dry kidneys’ is not a common term for the diagnosis your doctor has given you. However, this does not mean that you have a rare condition. Your doctor, or person who diagnosed you with this term, simply referred to a term that is not commonly used today. Consult your doctor about this and ask them to elaborate and explain what was meant in medical terms.

There is no term like dry kidney in medical text books.  There might be some technical name of the condition. It is possible that your kidneys are not functioning properly and are swollen due to infection or there is lake of blood circulation in the kidney. If you write the blood tests reports in the other question on this website then it might be helpful to find out the problem which you are having.

It means there is too much protein in your kidneys. You need to drink lots water and cut down on sugar. My bloodwork showed that too

The dry kidney is the one in which the flow of fluid and blood is very low and slow and cause an acute kidney failure too. But the best way is to check from the doctor too as he /she can tell you in medical terms.

It is not as easy as everyone says.  It can also be induced by medication - ibuprofen for one.  My doctor is making me cut down on it's intake (btw, I drink close to a gallon and a half to two gallons of water a day).
