A gum disease called periodontal disease is known to be due to autoimmune disorder. Its symptoms are swelling and redness in gum, gum recession and loose teeth and bad breath. It can be due to smoking, old age, bacterial or viral infections and diabetes. Periodontal gum disease can be of 2 types like gingivitis which is inflammation of the gum and Periodontitis which in which bone and tissues which support teeth are damaged.
Many autoimmune disease like MS, lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease can cause periodontal disease.
