Guillain barre syndrome is an autoimmune disorder which is characterized by weakness and numbness in the extremities due to nerve damage. Exact cause of this disorder is not known but respiratory tract infection can trigger symptoms. There  is no cure of this disease. Only symptoms can be reduced. These symptoms can come again. Two treatments are used to reduce the recovery time. These are exchange of plasma (plasmapheresis) and use of intravenous immunoglobullin.
