If your gallbladder is not inflamed, infected or over sized with stones like mine was I would try everything I could to keep it. If you having pain with gallbladder I would try to eat low fat and lots of fresh veges and try to stay away from rich food, full fat dairy, fatty meats and even veges in the cabbage family can set off pain, all nuts can aggravate it too and of course fried foods are bad also, my one true weakness. I have had my gallbladder removed and I find I still am having pains not a severe where gallbladder was and some foods just make me run to the bathroom. A gallbladder is so important to break down fats and foods. You might try digestive enzymes as I have started that and read on the web everything you can on healthy foods for improving digestion and you might also look into cleaning your liver up and seeing if that helps. I am 6 months after surgery and the doctor never told me that I needed to clean my diet up and eat healthy and low fat. Now I am trying to read and find out everything I can. Beets and beet greens help along with lots of lemon juice on everything as lemon help kind of break down the grease on food and it is good to help clean your liver. It really is hard to make some of these changes but if you can hold on to that gallbladder and get it to working better with good foods I would. It is a very important organ and yes you can live with out it but it is there for a reason to excrete concentrated bile and break down fats and food so you can digest your food and absorb the nutrients your body needs. I hope you can find something that can help you but I can assure you that you won't find much help with doctors so you might try to find a nutritionist or a natural doctors that can be helpful addressing some of these things as well. Good Luck to you.
