Insanity better known as madness is usually referred to as a general term. It is considered to be a semi-permanent and a severe mental disorder. Today however, it draws various conclusions wherein it is considered to be a very narrower lawful circumstance of criminal insanity. In medical profession or terms it is considered to be mental illness.

It roots of this word can be taken down to the English word "sane" and the Latin adjective sanus, which means healthy and most of al the phrase "mens sana in corpore sano", which is "healthy mind in a healthy body". It is from here that the term insanity of mind was developed. In terms of civil law it refers to a person who is not suitable for entering contracts or any kind of obligations.
