Hello 2 years ago I contracted mrsa in hospital after a fall on my left elbow ,the elbow swelled enormously and for about 4 months I was given 4 lots of antibiotics- which did nothing.
Eventually my GP aspirated the loads of thick yellow puss, by which time I was feeling generally quite ill..It came back from the lab as heavily infected with MRSA ,I had a course of tetracycline and my elbow did improve ,although it took about 6 months .NOW have a distended upper abdomen, and have pain just under my rib cage on the left side, and one place is very painful if I press it ..My heart rate for the last 3 months has intermittently gone into tachycardia -approx 180 bpm.,it does go down slowly in aprox 3 hrs. Have had an ecg and a heart scan ,which was normal ,except my pulse rate on the ecg was 150 bpm.
What I would like to know is ,can MRSA affect the spleen ?and could this be the reason for my tachycardia episodes.
Thankyou-by the way I am 57 yrs old and don't smoke, I am also an RN-now retired.
Could you please advise me ? Thankyou     Denise

I'm wondering the same thing. I had a MRSA infection in an abdominal incision about 3 yrs ago.  Ever since then my upper abdomen has been somewhat bulgy and tender.

I saw on Mystery Diagnosis recently that a man had an enlarged spleen for years after some serious infection in his foot.

An enlarged spleen in usually caused by eating to many fatty meals paired with a glucose deficiency.  You see the spleen is basically a bile bag that releases digestive enzymes into the digestive tract through the duadeenum just below the stomach. One thing that is very difficult for these enzymes to break down is fat and when your system is expecting fatty foods to be coming down makes a lot of bile but doesn't release it a starts to swell. If you suspect you have an enlarged spleen, or are having abdominal pains at all, go see a doctor.

Actually, it's the GALL BLADDER that stores and excretes bile that is produced by the liver, not the SPLEEN.

The SPLEEN is involved in the immune system. It also filters out dead and damaged blood cells.
