The sensation of heat anywhere on your feet can be caused by a number of reasons. It could be something as simple as you being sensitive to whatever your shoes or socks are made from, for example the dyes that are used. Insoles can also be responsible for causing the bottoms of feet to react and become hot. Another culprit could be the detergent you use; it isn't unheard of for an allergic reaction to be confined to a particular area of the body.

A burning sensation in feet can be caused by athlete's foot, although this is usually confined to the area where the infection is. If you have any itchiness, scaling, redness or cracking on your feet, you may have this condition, which is a fungus that grows in damp places. If this is the case, change your shoes and socks regularly, and make sure that you dry your feet properly after washing. You can get over the counter remedies for athlete's foot.

Burning feet can also be caused by damage to the nerves, and can be a symptom of peripheral neuropathy. Other signs may include (but may not) pins and needles, numbness, tingling or tickling. Peripheral neuropathy can be a symptom in itself of more serious things like diabetes, so if none of the above is applicable you should really get a check because the earlier diabetes is treated the better it is for your overall health.

There are other conditions that can produce peripheral neuropathy and they include Vitamin B-12 deficiency (pernicious anemia), alcohol abuse, heavy metal poisoning, circulatory disorders and AIDS.

Walking is good for peripheral neuropathy, as is massage, because it improves the circulation to the feet. Changing your shoes and socks regularly and soaking your feet in cool water (not icy water because this will cause more damage) will also help.
