I'm afraid he's right; there's a strong possibility that if you have sex he can give it to you.  However, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy each other sexually (for example, you can still have oral sex as long as you don't have any cuts in and around your mouth).  You just have to find ways to keep his fluids away from your membranes.  A condom might work, but it's risky.  Condoms are only effective 99% of the time, and that's in preventing sperm from reaching your egg.  They're even less effective in dealing with tiny proteins like viruses.

There are couples out there who lead fulfilling lives without having sex.  It's hard, and it takes a lot of patience and understanding, but it can happen.  Clearly the fact that your husband isn't having sex with you means he really cares about you, so there's already the element necessary for a continuing relationship.  I recommend you talk with him about it openly, figure out what you can and can't do, and try to come to an agreement about what your lives are going to be like in the future.
