Feeling as if there are bugs crawling all over your skin is commonly-associated with a number of conditions.

In fact, the sensation has its own name: Formication (I believe it's from the Latin word for 'ants').

To find out what could be causing this symptom, read on!

Why do I feel as if bugs are crawling all over me?

One of the most common causes of formication in women is menapause.

A tingling feeling that is like lots of tiny feet crawling all over your body can also be attributed to the following:

  • Decompression sickness (the bends)
  • Diabetes
  • Skin cancer
  • Lyme disease
  • Herpes
  • Syphilis
  • High fever

Another possibility is that you've ingested some sort of drug, chemical, or medication that has this side effect.

As far as recreational drug-use goes, this feeling is most commonly associated with cocaine use.

Other pharmaceuticals that might cause a similar reaction include:

  • Ritalin
  • Adderall
  • Lunesta
Basically, any amphetamine that causes a stimulating affect may result in overactive or oversensitive nerves that send signals to the brain.

As with any medical concern though, I'd recommend you speak to your doctor about this unusual sensation. It's always better to get a professional opinion on these matters!

It meas that you're tired and run down, or it could be tablets you're taking - and the worst thing it could be is that you need to wash properly!

My mom feels like that sometimes, maybe because she is diagnosed with schizophrenia.
