Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that could be of several types. These various types of schizophrenia are inclusive of:

Hebephrenic schizophrenia that is also called disorganized schizophrenia characterizes the phenomenon of inappropriate laughing and giggling, silliness in behavior, infantile behavior, incoherent speech and also strange and sometimes obscene behavior.

Another type is the paranoid schizophrenia that is marked by loss of accuracy in judgement, delusions and hallucinations of persecutions and of greatness. Also sometimes it involves erotic and unpredictable behavior.

The third type of schizophrenia is called catatonic schizophrenia which shows symptoms of major damage in motion, sometimes in all motions, making the person freeze in one position for several hours, sometimes even for days.

As for undifferentiated schizophrenia, it is a category, which includes those types of schizophrenia that could not be classified as either of the above-mentioned categories as those schizophrenias include symptoms from all three types.

Another type is residual schizophrenia, which pronounces minor signs of schizophrenia following a more serious attack.

Studied psychology in school, and I didn't hear anything about neuron loss. I would guess it neither 1. Nor 2. Since schizophrenia can be brought on at any time in a persons life. The most common explanation I have heard relates to higher dopamine activity in the brain. Hope this helps.

Rapid neuron loss occurs in early adulthood with little subsequent loss. (from the answer sheet)
