High blood pressure can affect cardiovascular system by damaging the arteries. This damage can cause deposition of cholesterol in the arteries leading to blocking of the vessels. High blood pressure can also affect muscles of the left ventricle of the heart which affect the pumping of the heart because workload of the heart is increased due to high blood pressure. This condition is called left ventricular hypertrophy. High blood pressure is also responsible for heart attacks.
