Urine from an uncontrolled diabetic can have a sweet odor. This may be due to the glucose (sugar) in the urine or from a secondary infection. The glucose in the urine predisposes diabetics to urinary tract infection. Severe urinary tract infections can also cause the urine to smell like pus.
Well controlled diabetics should not have glucose in their urine. This dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian, have a blood glucose test run, and a urinalysis performed.
