Most people will test HIV positive within 3 weeks after infection, but it could take up to 3 months.

We talked about this in my microbiology class and one of my other classes it would take about 6 months for an accurate reading...I hope I helped.

About six months. But tell your friend to get tested right away even if the result is more likely going to be negative. It will ease his mind and he could begin counting the months for his next test. Initial negative test result does not necessarily mean the next test would still be negative. Hopefully, it would be HIV negative. There is only one way to find out - get tested.
