A man can contract HIV by performing oral sex on a woman, although the likelihood of the virus being transmitted in this way is relatively small.

HIV and oral sex

The way someone becomes infected by HIV is by allowing the virus to enter the bloodstream through direct contact.

This is why unsafe sex and sharing needles is the most common means of transmitting the disease.

With regards to oral sex, the most likely way that the virus could enter the bloodstream through the oral cavity is through a cut or sore in the mouth.

A cut doesn't need to be particularly large to expose the bloodstream, and even activities like flossing and brushing one's teeth can result in tiny cuts in the mouth.

As a woman gets aroused, her vagina secretes lubricating fluids which are meant to ease the insertion of the male penis into the vagina.

If she has HIV, then these fluids can contain the HIV virus - and if they come into contact with sores or cuts, then it is possible for the virus to enter the bloodstream.

Regular testing is one preventative measure you could take, whilst wearing a dental dam is a possible form of contraception during cunnilingus (although they don't really look that sexy).

Yes, he can. The transmission of HIV is from body fluids. Oral sex causes the saliva and vaginal secretions to mix causing a risk for infection.

There has never been a single documented case of oral transmission, but they do say it is possible.
