Shingles refers to a painful skin rash which is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. The symptoms of Shingles start with burning pain and sensitive skin,  Before a rash is visible, the patient. Then it starts as small blisters on a red base. So probably you do have shingles. I have the exact same thing but it been off and on for 20 years, my doctor has ordered a MRI for this week. He too said shingles but no rash. Sometimes the pains last for weeks and other times for months. Each time its getting worse. Started 8 weeks after my 1st son was born by c section. This time it started after 3 days of a cold like illness.

I am now experiencing burning and jolting pain in my skin around my ribs to the back. No rash, and am confused. The Dr. Said this isn't shingles because no rash ever appears. Its been getting worse over the years, sometimes on my should, back or stomach. Any suggestions?
