When ever a person have an injury at road, First thing he should need to do is to have a vaccine for ATT. This will provide protection against Tetanus. Then after cleaning the affected area with any antiseptic solution, have a bandage if the injury is deep and also take antibiotics. If the injury is not deep, only minor rashes are there, then clean the area twice in a day with antiseptic solution and apply topical antibiotic and take anti inflammatory medicine orally.

I had severe road rash a few years ago and the nurses put burn cream on it. 3 times a day. Cleaning the area each time then putting fresh burn cream on . It just depends on the severity of the abrasions. My wounds were left uncovered to get air.

Man I feel your pain I too fell going well over 70 MPH and not only lucky to be alive I had severe road rash on my arms and legs, Deep scrubbing with a surgical scrub brush followed by generous application of hydrogen peroxide then pat dry with clean cloth and I applied Neosporin, I did this every day for several months because of the severity after it some what healed I had to keep it moist with Vaseline this also helped with scarring.
I wish you the best of luck and speed in your recovery.

I would debread the wound if it was not bad enough for surgery or stitches. Use hydrogen peroxide to wash out the scrapes and then use betadine to keep it from getting infected and bandage the areas with non stick gauze bandages. Making sure to change them daily and clean the area daily and re -wrap it with clean bandages. Until a good scab builds up. Then let it breathe to aid in healing.

Ouch!  I hope it is not too severe.  I found a site that had some useful info.  A lot of the same info as "rayoflight" gave, just more detail.

I was a MC racer in my younger years, Endure!
And they would scrub out all the particles, and it was very painful!
If you don't get out ALL the in purities and grit, it WILL get infected bad! And the healing will take longer!!!!
Then you do the other stuff.

What do you do when you are flying down a gravel fire road and boom? I always carry alcohol pads for cleaning and a product called new skin liquid bandage. It provides an antiseptic, flexible covering over the wound.

I find that any type of cut or scrape heals nicely by using the liquid from a leaf of the aloe plant. Works every time. Best results if done immediately.

Wow, these are all very good answers! The only thing I would add is that you should use the Hydrogen Peroxide only the first time you clean the wound and after that just plain water or saline solution. I read an article in Readers Digest about the peroxide and then my husbands vascular surgeon told him the same thing. The hydrogen peroxide prevents the white blood cells from reproducing on the wound which will slow down the healing process and most importantly it will prevent new cell growth so your body will not be able to produce new skin cells in the area. Logic101 has a good suggestion but if your bowling skills are as good as mine you may end up sliding halfway down the lane!!! Take care and don't forget the neosporin ointment!

You should have your vet check out in case it needs to be cleaned/irrigated and debrided by them (often) and then monitor for problems and infection and keep it clean (and usually dry) per their instruction.
