I know that this was posted a year ago but I just wanted to answer your question. I just went to the psychiatrist with minimal manic symptoms occurring about once every few months. She recommended a low dose of abiify to treat the mania. We'll see if it works.... But the answer is yes, abilify can work on Axis II/ mood disorders with manic episodes
I also take abilify-5mg for bipolar II and I love it. It really helps. Besides, don't focus on the fact that it is an antipsychotic because it has many other uses...depression, autism, even quitting smoking. Lots of people now take this medication.
You do not need to have extreme symptoms to benefit from Abilify. This medication is one of the top used drugs for patients suffering from Bipolar Disorder. After being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder II, I began taking Abilify as prescribed a few months ago. Do be cautious, however, of the side effects that accompany any medication. For me, the nausea caused by taking this medication after only a few days was a reason for me to seek out other medications. I now take Lamictal, another popular drug used for the treatment of Bipolar Disorder. Talk to your doctor to see if Abilify would work for you.
