One of the symptoms of the end stage liver disease is hepatic encephalopathy. In ESLD, cirrhosis is also present. Due to this liver is unable to remove ammonia from the blood which can damage to the brain cells. This results in hepatic encephalopathy, brain herniation, brain swelling and coma. This coma can lead to death. Prognosis is poor. 8 out of 10 who develop coma due to ESLD, die.
