A spleen tear can be very painful and will usually require surgery for repair or removal. The recent esophageal surgery will not cause a tear in the spleen. People usually obtain a spleen tear through trauma such as in a car wreck or while playing contact sports. Nevertheless, they are very painful and the pain is usually ongoing.
