Coughing up white phlegm isn’t usually a serious issue, but you’ll want to get it checked out if it’s occurring alongside any other symptoms!

What Can Cause Foamy White Mucus?
  • Common cold
  • Flu
  • Pharyngitis
  • Bronchitis
  • Lung disease
  • Asthma
What Can I Do To Stop It?
That really depends on what’s causing the phlegm in the first place. Exercise, breathing in steam, and several over-the-counter medicines are all useful in loosening phlegm, which should make it easier to cough up.

Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol, as both these things can make it worse.

If you take drugs recreationally, refrain from snorting anything, as that will cause a drip in your throat that will make your mucus situation even worse.

Is Foamy White Phlegm A Serious Problem?
It’s nothing to be especially worried about - dark green, red or black mucus is what you need to watch out for. Those can all signify serious infection, and you don’t want that!

The condition should go away by itself after a week or two, but if it’s still bothering you, arrange an appointment with your doctor. There could be an underlying cause that you’re not aware of.

You’ve probably just got a bit of a cold, so just make sure you’re eating healthily, drinking a lot of water and taking vitamin supplements.

If your immune system’s in good shape, you should be able to fight off infection quite easily!
