The tongue helps to move food around so you can better chew.  They say to chew a mouthfull at least 32 times to aid in the digestion.  Also, saliva helps break down food, so the more you chew, the better it is.  Also, take smaller bites and chew a lot.  The more you swallow, this gives the brain the signal of when you are full. Therefore, if trying to loose some weight, it is recommended smaller bits and more swallowing as brain is programed to give signal that you are full after a certain amount of swallows
