Blisters between your toes can be caused by a number of different things. While blisters are unlikely to cause you any harm, they can be extremely uncomfortable and finding the cause of your blisters is the most effective way to find a treatment.

One of the most common reasons individuals suffer with blisters between their toes is because of wearing ill fitting shoes. Shoes that are too tight around the toes can cause them to rub together and the friction will, in turn, develop blisters. If your blisters are particularly itchy, this is usually a symptom that is associated with wearing shoes that are too tight. Excessive sweating can also cause blisters to form between the toes. As the skin gets hot and produces sweat, the moisture gets trapped in the foot and forms the perfect environment for blisters to develop in. Blisters caused by sweating are most common in athletes and individuals wearing a pair of shoes for a long period of time. Any allergic reactions, such as insect bites, that appear on the toes may manifest in the form of blisters. Some people do not realise they are allergic to polyester socks and this can cause a blister-like reaction.

Blisters found between the toes may be a sign of a fungal infection. Infections such as athlete's foot will cause the skin between the toes to become red and cracked but will also be accompanied by blisters. If you are suffering with any burning or stinging between your toes then it is likely that you have athlete's foot. With the right treatment, this is a reasonably easy infection to get rid of. If you are not suffering with athlete's foot then there are other ways you can try to reduce the number of blister between your toes. These include wearing shoes that are not too tight, keeping your feet dry and using talcum powder.

My second big toes on my left foot is red with blisters. I have always worn the correct shoes.
This problem comes & goes & last for several weeks at a time. It's lasted off & on for several
months. It's only on one toe. What is it, what causes it & most important, what can I do?

Most likely your shoes are too big. Blisters are caused by skin rubbing against itself with pressure applied.
