I have looked at the UK NHS website - they say : "The flu virus can live on a hard surface for up to 24 hours, and a soft surface for around 20 minutes."

Survival of the virus a function of temperature, dryness, and U.V. (sun) exposure much more than 'hardness' or 'softness' of the medium. Can be passed to dog fur for instance, and last for days.

I'm not sure about this question, but I was diagnosed with flu and because it's so early in the season my doctor is fairly certain it is N1H1 (they don't test anymore as it is all treated the same way.)  I felt badly on Friday, burning in my chest and post nasal drip on Saturday and Sunday with 102 temperature on and off.  I went to the doctor on Monday, she gave me Tamiflu, and 5 days of antibiotics (for secondary bacterial infections - sinus infection, bronchitus, ect which can come about easily with all the mucus.) It is now Wednesday, and I am feeling much much better.  Still a lil weak and still quite a bit of congestion in my chest and runny nose, but no more fever, but overall I can tell my body is on the mend. I will prolly rest a couple of more days and then gently move back into my normal routine.  The good news is, to me, this is not one bit different than the regular flu so I hope this will help subside folks fears!  Take care and God bless!

The swine flu is like the bird flu. Man made this up. If it was air born like they say it is,WE WOULD ALL DIE!!!!! Everyone that gets the shot 4 the swine flu is taken a big risk in getting the swine flu & dieing. If you don't get the shot you have no worries. Most babies, children an elders will die from the shot.

They don't inject you with the actual virus. They use a protein marker on the virus or something that allows your body to know it is foreign. It allows the body to make antibodies against it.
I have a doctorate in anatomy & physiology, do not spread that kind of stuff around regarding vaccines.

So, if you are in a Walmart and people are coughing & sneezing.. You may get it in several ways. Think about when you go around an aisle corner & (unknowingly) walk into a mist of sneezed droplets.. Not only could you breathe it but it may be 'swept up' by your nice warm & humid head of hair. Think of that.. And touching it later.. How it can wind up in your home.

Wow, people really need to get their facts straight before they answer a question. I swear, people these days are so gullible and stupid. And I'm a teenager, that's pretty sad when I can figure that out and lots of older people can't. JUST WASH YOUR DANG HANDS!

Influezna has a 24 hour survivability outside the human body, and a 10 day incubation period. 100+ years is rubbish. That's hepatitis

Just avoid contact with people who have lots of contact with other people and avoid mass gatherings like marathons, sporting events, schools, hospitals, post offices... Id say swine flu can live forever outside the body because people are stupid. For example my family cracked jokes about me wearing a mask when my sister stopped by, she works in an nyc school and is planning to go to mexico in a month for her honeymoon because she doesnt want to lose the 400$ insurance deposit and in addition they offered a 25% discount so who cares about swine flu? "The regular flu kills more people" Is the popular answer but explaining that a virus that broke out under conditions that are hard for an influenza virus to survive which has killed young healthy people as well as those with other medical conditions with symptoms like fever of 106 degrees(8above normal body temp) where you crap vomit have muscle aches all over in addition to coughing sneezing and perhaps the pneumonia which can kill you is something that you don't want to catch.  If it doesnt kill you, it will make you sick as a dog. Awesome.
