Yes it is very rare for a boil to erupt behind you ear, as of now I have one. And yes it hurts like hell, I contacted my doctor and he prescribed me some medication to cease the pain and bring the swelling down. Although its still not completely gone after a month.
I have a big knot on both the front and back of my ear is there anything I can do to get rid of it beside surgery.
Care of all
I do have a boil behind my ear it became inflamed then it oozed pus then it went down but not away 2 weeks later the same thing happened. I made an appointment with a dermatologist but in the mean time I have a decayed tooth that I'm getting pulled out tomorrow. Does anybody know if they can have anything to do with each other. The boil is behind my right ear and it swelled up to the size of gun ball from the gumball machine. My tooth is also on the right side 2nd one from the back.
I have had this problem for years. At first I would scrub behind my ears with a washcloth and soap in the shower and it would go away. I still do that today but the boils never fully go away anymore. I have been prescribed anti-biotics, acid gel and other topical remedies and nothing helps. I recently had a decayed wisdom tooth removed. I asked the dentist if the tooth could have anything to do with it and he said he had never heard of any correlation. I will be going back to the dermatologist soon. I have always wondered if smoking cigarettes could be the cause. I am growing out my hair to cover it because it's embarrassing.
You can develop a boil anywhere on your skin, they are mostly the result of a spot/scratch/cut which has become infected. So behind your ear is a possibility, rare, but it can happen. If the inflammation is external then it's most likely a boil, however if it's under the skin it sounds more like an inflamed gland (there is a gland below the ear lobe).
You should consult your doctor, if it is a boil you will be prescribed some ointment/cream to treat it or possibly antibiotics depeding on the severity. In the meantime, try not to touch it and definately don't try squeeze it as this makes it more prone to infection, keep it as clean as possible. Anti-inflammatory tablets such as Ibrofen should ease the pain a little for now, but I strongly advise seeing your doctor.
